WTT Champions Chongqing 2025: Sun Yingsha Defends Title, Wang Chuqin Beats Lin Shidong
On 16 March 2025, the WTT Champions Chongqing concluded in Chongqing's Huaxi LIVE·Yudong arena. Sun Yingsha beat Chen Xingtong 4-0 to defend her women's title, while Wang Chuqin downed world No. 1 Lin Shidong 4-1; China swept both singles finals.

On the evening of 16 March 2025, the WTT Champions Chongqing wrapped up at the Huaxi LIVE·Yudong arena in Chongqing’s Ba’nan District. Both singles finals were all-Chinese affairs: Sun Yingsha defeated Chen Xingtong 4-0 to defend her women’s title, and Wang Chuqin beat world No. 1 Lin Shidong 4-1 to take the men’s crown. China swept both singles finals.
Women’s singles: Sun Yingsha closes it out in four
The women’s final came first. Against teammate Chen Xingtong, Sun dictated from the opening point—her serve and rallies both sharper—winning 11-7, 11-4, 12-10, 11-7. It was her second Chongqing title after June 2024, a successful defense.
The result was hardly a surprise. China had already locked up all four semifinal spots (Sun, Wang Manyu, Wang Yidi, Chen Xingtong); Wang Manyu withdrew through injury, handing Chen a walkover into the final, while Sun dispatched Wang Yidi 4-1 in the other semifinal.
Men’s singles: Wang Chuqin answers the No. 1 question
The men’s final was the night’s centerpiece—a clash between the world’s top two, Lin Shidong and Wang Chuqin, ranked first and second respectively. Wang took the opener 11-5, Lin leveled with an 11-6 second game, then Wang ran off three straight (11-7, 11-5, 11-6) for a 4-1 win.
The road there was no easier: in the semifinals Wang downed Tomokazu Harimoto 4-1 and Lin eliminated Liang Jingkun 4-1, with China holding three of the four last-four berths.
What one title means
For Wang Chuqin, the trophy carried real weight. The 1000 ranking points and $60,000 prize put him in position to overtake Lin Shidong and reclaim the world No. 1 spot. Afterward he admitted that since the Asian Cup his confidence had grown and his mindset matured; the final was approached “as a challenger.”
Chongqing brought the noise, too—more than 10,000 fans packed the arena, and CTTA president Liu Guoliang handed over the trophies as Sun and Wang posed for a selfie together.
From the Doha Worlds to Chongqing, the new cycle is taking shape: Sun Yingsha remains the anchor on the women’s side, while the men’s field has settled into a Lin Shidong–Wang Chuqin duel at the summit. Who carries the momentum into the next stop is the story worth following.
