Butterfly Rozena Review: The Forgiveness-First Gateway to Butterfly Rubbers
Rozena uses rose-dyed Spring Sponge and a high-tension topsheet to make Butterfly's tensor feel more forgiving. This review covers why it suits improving players and where its ceiling sits.
The one-line verdict
Rozena answers one question: what if you take Butterfly’s Spring Sponge and make it easier to live with? It gives up the high-end spin and speed of Tenergy/Dignics for error tolerance and a sense of safety — a steady bridge for improving players moving toward high-end Butterfly rubbers.
Specifications (official / community)
- Tech: rose-dyed Spring Sponge + high-tension non-tacky topsheet, high-tolerance design
- Butterfly indices: Speed 83 / Spin 70 / Arc 75, sponge hardness 35°
- Community aggregate (hundreds of ratings): overall ~8.7, speed 8.2, spin 8.1, control 8.8
- Thickness: 1.7 / 1.9 / 2.1 mm
Hands-on testing
The soft sponge and tolerant topsheet are the core. A late, off-center, or slightly wrong-angle contact is caught and kept in, giving players still fixing their stroke time to feel what a good loop should feel like. It still attacks: close-table opening, fast drive, and block all come easily because the sponge gives speed without a big swing.
The catch is the ceiling. Spin sits around Tenergy 64’s level, clearly below Tenergy 05 and Dignics 05; speed is medium-fast rather than explosive. It is a “does everything, tops nothing” all-rounder — strong counter-loopers will want more spin and speed.
Choosing among siblings
- Want tolerance first and a stable stroke? Rozena.
- Want high spin and speed and will feed the technique? Tenergy 05 / Dignics 05.
- Want a lower arc and more direct backhand hitting? Tenergy 64.
One more note: the soft sponge has a shorter life — multiple reviews mention it gets hard to engage after about 3–6 months, so factor replacement cost if durability matters.
Buying advice
Prioritize it if you are moving from beginner to intermediate and learning loops and blocks on both wings, especially the backhand; established power loopers wanting high spin and speed will find it soft. It costs less than Tenergy but more than domestic entry rubbers — you pay for the Butterfly feel and the forgiveness.
