One-line verdict

If you want an all-wood DHS blade with deep dwell and a proper looping arc, Hurricane Long 3 is the Long-series member that skips built-in fiber; its sibling the 301 adds built-in ALC and is faster — don’t conflate the two.

Specs

  • Build: 5-ply all-wood (limba outer, ayous core)
  • Thickness: about 5.9–6.1 mm
  • Weight: commonly 86–92 g
  • Style: looping, control-leaning

Hands-on

Long 3 is a classic all-wood looper — soft outer, thick core, so the ball sinks deep and leaves on a full arc with clear feedback. Unlike a composite, it won’t “launch” for you; you make the spin and arc with your own power, which keeps it honest and controllable. The downside is less raw speed and punch than the built-in-fiber Long 5 / 301, and it is softer on borrowed pace, so its ceiling in topspin rallies leans on your input.

How it compares

  • Want the faster, springier built-in sibling → Hurricane Long 5 (Ma Long’s built-in ALC).
  • Want an outer-composite balanced feel → Timo Boll ALC (new, linear and stable).
  • Want faster all-wood → Stiga Clipper Wood (seven-ply speed).

Buying advice

Best for intermediate players building loop feel who prefer honest all-wood feedback; if you chase speed and one-shot punch, go built-in fiber with the 301 / Long 5.
