About PongGear
PongGear is an independent table tennis site covering gear reviews, stroke technique, history and player profiles. This page explains how the content is made, how reviews are conducted, how affiliate links are handled, and how to reach us.
What this site is
PongGear is an independent table tennis site built around four things: helping you pick the right gear, helping you fix your strokes, explaining the sport’s history, and recording the people who play it.
The “Gear” in the name only marks where it started. Over time the site grew past equipment — into the dialectics of technique, eighty years of rule changes, and the people and stories around the table. What is here now reaches well beyond a gear list.
The content is organized into seven sections: Equipment and Technique for players, History and Legends for those who want to understand the game, and Stories and Notes from life around the table. Everything is free to read — no paywall, no pop-up ads.
Who writes the content
Articles are signed “PongGear Editors”, a shared pen name for a small group of enthusiasts. Technique pieces are drawn from training notes and match observation; gear reviews combine hands-on use with manufacturers’ published specifications; history and legend profiles reference public reporting, interviews and archival footage. Whenever a claim rests on thin evidence, the article says so directly instead of presenting it as a settled conclusion.
How reviews are done
Gear reviews rest on two kinds of evidence: playing notes from actual use, and official specs and construction data. Since feel is personal, each review spells out the context — which blade paired with which rubber, how long it was used, roughly what level the player is — so you can map it onto your own situation.
Ratings and recommendations address the equipment itself, nothing else. The same blade can play very differently in different hands, so rather than handing down one universal verdict, we try to make the suitable scenarios clear.
Affiliate links and disclosure
Running costs are paid out of pocket. To help cover hosting and the domain, some equipment articles contain shopping affiliate links: the Chinese pages use Taobao Affiliates, the English pages use Amazon.
Every such link carries an “ad” label, visually distinct from regular text. If you buy through a link, the site earns a small commission; the price you pay does not go up, and the review’s conclusions do not change. No manufacturer has paid for a recommendation, and flaws are reported as usual. Each article containing affiliate links ends with a fixed disclosure notice.
